THE EMPIRE CLUB

A name with a story

1930 / THE BEGINNING

It started with cricket

A group of Petone teenagers formed a cricket club in 1930. They chose the name Empire from the sugar bags they used to carry their gear.

1934 / A NEW GAME

A winter tradition was born

The cricketers took up table tennis to stay together in winter. In 1934, they affiliated with Hutt Valley Table Tennis and Empire Table Tennis Club was born.
